The Room Where It Happened
As Amazon searched 238 places for a home for HQ2, JBG Smith was determined to win one of the largest real estate deals in American history. JBG Smith asked Lyons & Sucher to create Crystal City’s new Marketing Center to win Amazon.
The “room where it happened” is in an ideal location: a 12th floor raw space with unobstructed vistas of Washington, National Airport and newly activated streets and buildings in Crystal City.
The “room” was designed to continue the conversation that was already in Amazon’s head.
On their first visit the Amazon team stepped onto a custom 140 ft. long aerial photo floor map of Crystal City and environs, and immediately “got it”. In addition to this map, super-sized displays of current and future data and a 20ft. video screen presented a remarkable future for Amazon and its employees in Crystal City.
Over 15 months, as Amazon made return trips and negotiations evolved, the Marketing Center displays went through 3 iterations to keep the information current.
What you see here is the room where it happened in its final iteration.
After the Amazon announcement, JBG Smith continued to invite Government Officials, Investors and Brokers here to start their tours of Crystal City.
